Patient portal meets assistive technology know-how: m.Doc and opta data join forces

Cologne, 08.11.2021. A new partner for the ecosystem of the Cologne-based digital healthcare pioneer m.Doc: With immediate effect, the expertise of the opta data Group as a provider of IT, billing and services in the healthcare sector will flow into the patient portal m.Doc Smart Clinic, thus facilitating discharge management for patients and healthcare professionals – far beyond the requirements of the KHZG (Hospital Futures Act).

Seamless integration, without data islands, additional platforms or manual transfer of data and information – this is what digital healthcare pioneer m.Doc has now achieved in collaboration with opta data Group. As part of a strategic partnership, the two companies have further developed the medical aid supply process, making it significantly easier for patients, their relatives, healthcare professionals in discharge management and medical aid providers.

Specifically, opta data’s contract database, which digitally maps almost the entire medical aid contract landscape of the payers, is integrated into the m.Doc patient portal Smart Clinic in real time. This means that as soon as a clinic issues an aid prescription as part of discharge management, possible service providers in the region – based on the current contract situation of the respective health insurance company and medical supply stores – are displayed for the individual supply. The social service can thus not only select suitable offers for patients, but also request them directly. A special feature: patients can exercise their right of choice via their access to the patient portal. Thanks to modern FHIR-based interfaces, this information is fed back in real time to the social service in the hospital’s discharge management. The service provider can confirm and schedule the delivery via the same path, provided that the health insurer’s approval has been obtained. This means that not only can the discharge process be reliably planned, but patients and their relatives are actively involved in the entire communication process, are kept fully informed, and can potentially ask for all details relating to the planned care, as well as the delivery date, even from their home environment. This comprehensive integration into the information chain is unique to date and even goes far beyond the requirements that the KHZG stipulates for the digitalization of discharge management.

“For us, patients are the focus of all our solutions, and for this we have relied on a strong partner network since our founding. We are all the more pleased that we have not only gained a new partner in opta data, but that together we can present a state-of-the-art solution for the aid process in discharge management in hospitals. We are thus keeping our promise to our customers to implement a future-proof, scalable platform within the framework of the KHZG,” says Admir Kulin, founder and CEO of m.Doc GmbH, who is delighted with the new “Aids Catalog” module on the m.Doc Smart Health platform.

And Jan Helmig, CDO of opta data Group, adds: “We are thrilled that we can now integrate our services even more deeply into the processes of the hospital world thanks to the open architecture of the m.Doc Smart Health Platform. This opens up completely new possibilities for directly networking all players and improving the flow of information. Our egeko software module is perfect for receiving the aid prescription and other information, integrating medical supply stores and health insurance companies or accelerating logistics and approval processes.”
