Integration and interoperability across the board: m.Doc breaks completely new ground with HIS plug-and-use components

Cologne, 24.11.2021.With the new m.Doc i.s.h.med SmartConnect, Cologne-based m.Doc GmbH presents for the first time a plug-and-use component that establishes a KHZG-compliant connection between a patient portal and an HIS. With this, m.Doc is deepening its long-standing strategic collaboration with Cerner and offering hospitals working with i.s.h.med® a whole new user experience

It is a real premiere that digital healthcare pioneer m.Doc is presenting at Cerner’s i.s.h.med User Days 2021. That’s because m.Doc i.s.h.med SmartConnect, a plug-and-use component for Cerner’s i.s.h.med® HIS, will for the first time directly establish a controlling connection from an HIS to the leading patient portal in the DACH region, m.Doc SmartClinic.

For m.Doc founder and CEO Admir Kulin, the presentation of the m.Doc i.s.h.med SmartConnect is an absolutely logical next step in the company’s history. For Kulin, digitization must never be an end in itself, but must offer added value for the users in the clinic. A high level of interoperability will therefore determine how quickly and how extensively the digitization of healthcare progresses, he said. “With the m.Doc i.s.h.med SmartConnect, our Smart Clinic patient portal can now be controlled directly from the i.s.h.med hospital information system for the first time. We are thus consistently pursuing our vision of barrier-free application of digital solutions. We are convinced: open architectures will prevail in the long term.”

The idea behind the new m.Doc i.s.h.med SmartConnect is simply explained: Why should hospital staff have to familiarize themselves additionally with completely new digital solutions if they can continue to operate from the familiar and established HIS environment? And that is exactly what the new solution makes possible with immediate effect. The implementation and handling of a KHZG-compliant patient portal has never been so user-friendly. Put simply, m.Doc i.s.h.med SmartConnect enables deep integration of new digital modules of the m.Doc patient portal directly into Cerner’s existing and established i.s.h.med HIS. On the one hand, the experience for the hospital staff is new, but on the other hand, the handling is absolutely familiar.

Because regardless of whether it’s about initial consultations and therapy planning with patients including consents, whether someone wants to book an appointment, documents are to be exchanged or structured patient outcome measures are to be recorded – with m.Doc i.s.h.med SmartConnect, i.s.h.med becomes the key that opens all modules of the KHZG-compliant patient portal from m.Doc to the HIS. And best of all: With each new release of Cerner and/or m.Doc, the services are automatically expanded. Future legal requirements can also be implemented in a timely manner, so that hospital operators have planning security at all times and are positioned for the future.

And incidentally, the patient also benefits from secure and timely information about his or her stay in the hospital, fed directly from the hospital HIS.

Stefan Radatz, Managing Director of Cerner in Germany and Austria, is also convinced of the synergies and added value that m.Doc i.s.h.med SmartConnect can offer users and once again emphasizes the general importance of patient portals in the digitization of German hospitals: “m.Doc is a long-standing and important partner for Cerner in the field of patient portals. And so we are pleased about the current cooperation with the goal of providing a patient portal that is eligible for funding in accordance with the requirements of the KHZG. This will open up our HIS i.s.h.med to patients and break down sector boundaries.”
